August, 1945. Times Square, New York City. A moment captured in time; arguably America’s greatest. Dancing in the streets, we celebrated the unimaginable sacrifice of the American solider, the unwavering dedication of the American people and the unparalleled productivity of the American worker. Growing up amongst the industrial ruins of Detroit Michigan, I find myself missing those churning factories that I’ve never seen run. Watching the cultural ruin of Black Friday, I long for a time when “quality over quantity” applied to not only gifts but the giving spirit itself. I yearn for a time known only through my grandparents’ stories of a nation full of pride, innovation and productivity. In August 1945, we believed in America. Some of us still do.
Alas, I have no miracle proposal to restore the American dream; I do, however, wish to share with you one man’s plan to restore her entrepreneurial spirit. First, we must build a true retail alternative to the “big box store” – and their masses of cheap foreign goods – by offering the first quantitatively comparable selection of higher quality US made products all in one place. Second, recapture the American consumer base through targeted grass roots marketing which emphasizes quality and domestic production instead of the cheapest price. Finally, the synergetic result of these trends will lead the American entrepreneur back to US based manufacturing by making it the financially viable and socially desirable ch
