What The 911 Club Does:
On the day that a First Responder is killed, the department head, a chaplain and a member of The 911 Club goes to see the widow/widower. Like most of us, they live pay day to pay day so one of the things going through their mind is "What's going to happen to us now." We assure them that we're going to support them and we start by giving them a check for $10,000. This allows them to grieve without worrying. After the funeral, we follow up by providing a Professional Advisory Team comprised of an attorney, a financial planner and a grief counselor. The truth is their lives will never be the same. Our task is to help them find a new normal.

While serving in the Captain's office aboard the USS Intrepid in Viet Nam, I learned the importance of proper planning, efficient organization and always looking at the larger picture.
